Michael Cera Recalls Funny First Meeting with Jackie Chan During Film Promotions

Actors Michael Cera and Jackie Chan are both currently making the rounds to promote their latest films—Cera stars in the quirky adventure The Phoenician Scheme, while Chan returns in the action-packed Karate Kid: Legends.

In a recent interview with NME, Cera shared a humorous story about meeting Chan for the first time during a shared appearance on BBC Radio 2. According to Cera, Chan didn’t recognize him and may have thought he was just another fan. “When I met him, he seemed unsure of who I was,” Cera joked. “He was nice about it, but I felt like I was crashing a private moment with his team. We took a photo together, but I think he believed I was a contest winner or something.”

Cera’s film, The Phoenician Scheme, directed by Wes Anderson, recently debuted at Cannes. It tells the story of a wealthy entrepreneur, Zsa-Zsa Korda, who surprisingly names his daughter—a nun—as his sole heir. As Korda ventures into a new business endeavor, he becomes the target of global conspiracies involving rival magnates and hired assassins.

Meanwhile, Chan returns as a wise martial arts mentor in Karate Kid: Legends, continuing a role he last played in 2010. The story centers on a gifted young kung fu student, Li Fong, who relocates to New York and clashes with a local karate champion. With the guidance of Mr. Han and Daniel LaRusso, he prepares to compete in a prestigious martial arts tournament.
