‘Karate Kid: Legends’ Struggles at Box Office, Trails Behind ‘Lilo & Stitch’ and ‘Mission: Impossible’ With $21M Debut

The box office continues to thrive as a highly anticipated animated sequel maintains its top spot, earning an impressive $63 million domestically in its second weekend and surpassing $610 million globally. Meanwhile, a major action star’s latest installment in a long-running spy franchise holds strong in second place, adding $27.2 million domestically for a 10-day total of $122 million in North America.

A new martial arts film, reuniting two iconic stars from previous franchise entries, debuted below expectations with an estimated $21 million domestically. Despite hopes for a stronger opening, industry tracking had initially projected a higher figure. The film, which carries a modest production budget, has received mixed reviews from critics but holds a solid audience score. Overseas, it has collected $26 million so far, bringing its global total to $47 million.

Another horror release from a well-regarded studio opened in fifth place, earning $7.1 million domestically. The film has been praised by critics and received a strong audience rating for its genre.

In limited release, a director’s latest project achieved the highest per-theater average of the year, grossing $95,000 per location following its premiere at a major international film festival. The film has already earned $6.8 million globally.
