In Guy Ritchie’s latest attempt at an action-adventure spectacle, John Krasinski stars as Luke Purdue, a modern-day treasure hunter trying to fill the boots of cinematic legends—but the result is far from legendary. Backed by a mysterious billionaire (played with mild amusement by Domhnall Gleeson), Luke sets off in pursuit of the mythical Fountain of Youth, tracing clues hidden in Renaissance paintings. Joining him is his reluctant sister Charlotte (Natalie Portman), who warns of the dangers but gets swept up anyway, mostly by generic motivational lines like “Life is about adventure!”

Despite a globe-trotting itinerary that includes Vienna, Cairo, and Bangkok, the film offers little more than a patchwork of better stories. Krasinski’s performance comes off more arrogant than adventurous, and the movie borrows so heavily from other franchises—like Indiana Jones, The Da Vinci Code, and The Bourne Identity—that it lacks a voice of its own.

Portman and Gleeson manage to inject occasional charm, and there’s a brief moment of cleverness when a supporting character expresses surprise at someone noticing his houndstooth suit. But these sparks can’t save a movie weighed down by uninspired writing and awkward character moments—like Luke using a knockout spray on women who disagree with him.

Ultimately, this film feels like a luxury commercial stretched to feature-length, offering glossy visuals but no lasting excitement. With so many classics still available, this entry into the action-adventure genre feels unnecessary and forgettable.
