Bright Light Over Bay Area Turns Out to Be SpaceX Dragon Returning from ISS

On Saturday night around 10:37 p.m., residents across the Bay Area spotted a bright fireball streaking across the sky. Initially mistaken for a meteor, the luminous object was later confirmed to be the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft reentering Earth’s atmosphere after completing a resupply mission to the International Space Station (ISS).

The unmanned Dragon capsule had undocked from the ISS on May 23 and made a controlled descent, splashing down near Oceanside, California, at approximately 10:44 p.m. The mission marked SpaceX’s 32nd commercial resupply flight to the ISS, delivering essential supplies and scientific equipment.

The spacecraft originally launched on April 21 from Kennedy Space Center in Florida aboard a Falcon 9 rocket, arriving at the ISS the following day. Over the past 24 years, the ISS has served as a hub for continuous human presence in space, enabling groundbreaking research that supports future deep-space exploration, including missions to the Moon and Mars.
