Google’s AI Product Line Is More Confusing Than Ever

At this year’s developer conference, Google revealed a sprawling array of new AI tools and services. Names like Deep Think, Deep Search, Gemini in Chrome, and AI Mode in Search now dominate the tech giant’s offerings. Add in new subscription tiers—Google AI Pro and AI Ultra—and things get even murkier. Project Starline has been rebranded as Google Beam, while tools like Astra, Aura, Jules, and Gems further crowd the space.

All of this follows Google’s transition from its original chatbot name, Bard, to the more cohesive Gemini branding—an improvement that bundled previous services like Duet into one platform. Yet, despite this earlier course correction, Google I/O made it clear: the AI naming maze is back.

Between Gemini 2.5 Pro, DeepMind’s latest innovation for solving complex coding and math problems, and features like Search Live, which enables real-time object recognition through your phone camera, users are left wondering: what’s what? As Google blends features across platforms, it’s hard to keep track of what each AI tool actually does.

Let’s hope some clarity arrives before we all need a neural net just to navigate Google’s product catalog.
