JCPenney to Close 7 Stores Amid Shift to Online Shopping: Full List of Locations

A prominent U.S. department store chain is set to close multiple locations as shifting consumer habits drive shoppers toward online platforms, challenging traditional brick-and-mortar retailers. Earlier this year, the company revealed a partnership with a popular fast-fashion brand to form a new entity alongside other well-known apparel labels, aiming to revitalize its portfolio. This rebranding effort, which includes collaborations with several heritage and casualwear brands, plans to expand with over 1,800 stores and create tens of thousands of jobs nationwide.

Despite this growth strategy, the retailer confirmed the closure of seven stores in late May, following a wave of shutdowns triggered by its 2020 bankruptcy restructuring. The affected locations span states such as California, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, New Hampshire, North Carolina, and West Virginia. One store initially slated to close negotiated a lease extension, allowing it to remain operational until late summer.

While the company did not specify exact reasons for each closure, it cited common retail challenges such as lease expirations, shifting market demands, and operational adjustments. The move reflects broader industry trends as physical retailers adapt to digital competition and evolving consumer preferences
